In Australia, you are not allowed to use Efudex 5% cream for more than 14 days. I'm surprised why people here are using it for longer. Strange!!!

Ain’t no Way I’ll do this! I will not put myself into torture for one month. If I have basal or squamous cell occurring on my face once in a while, I’ll go down to the dermatologist and have them remove it and I’m done with it for a while. I can live with that but ain’t no way I’m going to cover my face with fluorouracil and go to the torture and agony for one month just to be safe.

Just went thru this and I'm happy to report that, while very unpleasant, my reaction wasn't as extreme as yours! Have you done it again in the past 5 years?

Thank you for sharing this information. I will have to start this treatment next week after I have MOHS on my hand and foot. I will be treating my face first and then I was told to do my hands and arms after the face healed. I guess I am looking at two months of pure pain. It will be tough having to sleep on my back since I am a side sleeper. Also, I am now 71.

Thank God we are now in the Internet age and have patient experiences recorded on sites like RUclips. My dermatologist mentioned possibly starting this treatment when I go back in six months. She did not exactly downplay it, but I sure I’m glad I saw videos like yours or others, I am almost positive. I will not start this treatment.

I just wanted to tell you that I started to use it on 3/4/24 and will use it for another couple of weeks. Am using it on a couple of spots on my left cheek and near my lip. These are not very sore at all. I use it once a day in the evening and Vaseline on the spots the next day. Doctor wasn't quite sure what the red spots were, but prescribed the cream. No more spots came out on my face, which is good sign. I hope it works for me. Before I used the cream, the red spots would not heal. It didn't matter what I put on them. They just burnt whenever I put anything on them. I thought they might have been Actinic kerotosis, because of the burning sensation.

Can this treatment be used on a limited area, like maybe just on the nose?

I assume you have read the insert that comes from the tube. If you have severe redness or peeling of skin you may be having a toxic reaction. It's chemo therapy & i didn't know that when perscribed it. I should have done my research. I assume you know the serious side effects of this medication like chest pain, heart issues, bleeding from the mouth, irritation of the whole Gi tract from the mouth to the anus. Some people have an enzyme deficiency that causes severe reactions. This is not something you can just say to others,' do what the Dr. Says & use it, etc. I quit taking it because of chest pains, mouth bleeding & shortness of breath. I advise caution & there are youtube videos that explain throughly exactly what to look out for with potention severe side-effects

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I’m 44 years old and I started using FL5 recently as spot treatment, but I am pretty sure I’m gonna have to go the route you have gone. Spots are now popping up all over my face at an alarming rapid pace, and it’s scaring me to death. my doctor prescribed one month on, followed by a month off, followed by a month on but I was unable to do that because of another health condition. I see my dermatologist on Friday and I am pretty sure I will eventually have to do this for a full month or whatever the prescribed length of time. Needless to say, when I go out into the sun, I take much more precaution than I did historically when I was a semi pro athlete. I am terrified of what the years to come may bring when it comes to my skin health. I already had my first basal cell carcinoma removed last year.

How do you shave

This is an old video, but wondering how you sleep. I mean,how do you avoid getting the treatment on your pillow which could get in your eyes, mouth? I’d be afraid I’d touch my face then spread it! Fascinating. I’ve had 3 skin cancers (squamous cell) -2 on my face. My doctor has not suggested this.. I might ask! Thank you!

I am on day four…just a little pink. I am doing it in two stages as l am applying the creams. Temples, forehead and nose now…twice a day.

I used this cream (5FU or F5U) back in 1979 to get rid of squamous cell carcinoma, or Bowens desease. It does a lot of temporary damage, and I had to stop the wound from skinning over between applications by using a Q tip and hydrogen peroxide to remove the coating and expose the raw area. Doing that was very painful, but when faced with possible cancer, and its spread, one is willing to put up with the discomfort. The treatment worked, but I did have to repeat the treatment a few weeks later just to make sure the pre cancer had gone. Yes, I did have to go through the painful process again. What is interesting, and surprising now, after seeing these RUclips videos is that I had a possible sin cancer growth last year, but when I asked about using the cream, my dermotoligist told me that the cream is no longer recemended, as it has been deterined to he a carcinogen.

Can you even shave using this stuff?

Thanks for this video, Jim. I grew up in the west coast and practically lived at the ocean. Back then, in the 60's, I didn't worry about skin cancer or anything like that. Now I'm on day 10 of my treatment and can't wait to stop using the stuff. In four more days I'll be able to start the healing process. I look like a leper and everywhere I go people tend to take second looks but I'll continue on. I just now learned about using Aquaphor two hrs after applying the cream. I wish my VA doctor would have told me about that. She told me not to use anything in my face until the full two weeks was up. Your video has encouraged me to stick with the program and see it out into it's entirety. Kudos to your efforts in helping others😊👍
